During winter our skin suffers from the cold.
Thus, taking care and protecting it from dryness is essential. But how can we protect it? Here is the first part of our ten skincare tips to help you to keep a beautiful and healthy skin during this time of the year. Most of these tips are easy to follow and you can continue to practice them all the year and not only during winter.
1. Hydration and moisturizing
Keeping a hydrated skin during winter is the number one challenge. Many skin types suffer from the cold and get dry very easily. Our tip here is to keep drinking a sufficient quantity of water everyday, even more than what is advised during the rest of the year. This first very easy tip will help you to keep a pretty and healthy skin as water will help to illuminate and refresh it, and thus keep it hydrated enough.
We recommend you to drink between six and eight glasses of water per day to keep your skin hydrated enough.
2. Exfoliate
Winter and cold weather in general definitely cause rigidness, dryness and roughness for most skin types. Our second advice is to exfoliate your skin on a regular basis. Indeed, scrubbing your skin with adapted exfoliating products will help to remove all the dead skin cells your skin produces everyday and make it appear fresher and healthier.
However, be careful, skin is already very sensitive at this time of the year so don’t exfoliate it too much. We recommend you to listen to your skin and its needs and exfoliate it once a week at most, and apply a moisturizer immediately after.
3. Reduce alcohol and caffeine
As a third tip, we would recommend you to reduce alcohol and caffeine. These elements contain ingredients which can dehydrate your skin much faster in a period of time when you should keep your skin hydrated to the best.
We know coffee is a hot and cosy drink, ideal for these cold days of winter, but why wouldn’t you switch your coffee with another drink like a fruit juice, a smoothie or a milkshake? Change can be good, can’t it? As concerning the alcohol, keep an eye on it by reducing your consumption and stay careful.
4. Switch up your diet
Our fourth tip would be to suggest you to switch up your diet in order to keep a pretty skin. Overall, at any time of the year it is essential to have a balanced and nutrient-rich diet. But during winter your skin can be both affected by the cold and the way you eat. During this period of the year be careful to eat food which contains many vitamins and minerals but few calories, such as vegetables (avocado, spinach…), fruits (apple, mango, banana…), fish, poultry…
5. Keep your routine
Even if we are giving you skincare tips to fight the winter cold, our fifth and last advice would be that you definitely shouldn’t change your morning and night skincare routine. Our tips are mainly based on how to adapt your lifestyle during the winter to keep a healthy skin but when it comes to skincare products our best advice would be to continue to hydrate your skin with your usual creams and ointment or adapt your skincare routine to adequate products for winter. We recommend you to apply skincare products after your shower for a better effect and result.
