As the weather is becoming unpredictable and we make way for the changing season, we need to make sure our hair and our skin are ready to face the change as well. These changes, such as the cold, frigid climate slowly shifts to warmer, humid temperatures, our bodies naturally adapt. But, there are some aspects of our anatomy we can’t control such as frizzy hair, oily skin, and scalp flakiness. Therefore, your beauty glow may need some preparation to overcome the weather transition.
Here are some good and useful tips:
Skin tips:
1. Adapt your beauty routine: In summer, we tend to use lighter skincare products, because often the sebum is a little more present. But these treatments are not necessarily suitable for colder weather. Consider adopting a more moisturizing, more nourishing cream adapted to your skin type to help the epidermis restore its protective barrier. Think, among other things, of formulas enriched with nutritious oils: borage, evening primrose, grape seeds, shea butter, etc. Sometimes in the same range, it is possible to switch from a treatment for normal skin to that for very dry or even extra dry skin. Very important: We must not forget our hands, our feet and our lips, which are also drier in winter. Always have creams and balms on hand to protect them from external aggressions.
2. Use exfoliation: With exfoliation, the skin regains its radiance, breathes better and absorbs more of the nourishing and hydrating care given to it. You can opt for gentle, non-abrasive exfoliators. We therefore abandon the ultra-stripping grain scrubs for exfoliating creams or formulas for sensitive skin, which we will use twice a week at most.
3. Masks: After use exfoliation, the ideal is to get a hydrating mask. There are suitable ones for all skin types. If you don’t have enough time, night masks are more and more popular because we sleep while they do the work! We just need to rinse off the next morning.
4. The essential accessories: It might be obvious but one way to protect your skin, hair and nails is to get out with warm clothes and accessories! So put on your gloves, your hat and your scarf.
5. Daily gestures: First of all, turn down the heat. Why? Because when houses are heated, the humidity in the room decreases. The air becomes dry and so does the skin, therefore less hydrated. Plus, it is a small gesture that is good for the environment and for our skin! You can also place humidifiers in the most frequently used rooms. Although it is a must-have winter treat, avoid taking too many hot baths and try to reduce the time and temperature of the shower because it is very drying on the skin. Then, do not forget to drink water. This is advice for all seasons but hydration is the key too often overlooked.
Hair tips:
1. Get regular trims: Too much heat or cold can damage your hair, especially the ends. Trimming your hair can make it look healthier, trendier and even put less pressure on the hair, thereby reducing hair fall.
2. Shampoo your hair according to the season: In the hot weather, hair can become sweatier hence require more frequent shampooing as compared to the cold season where you might not want to shampoo your hair as frequently.
3. Change your hair products as per the season: As there is more humidity in some seasons, it is wise to not use the products which excessively moisturise your hair, during those seasons, but during winters, using shampoo and conditioner with moisturising agents will be very beneficial to your hair as those months are drier.
4. Drink lots of water: Water is extremely important not just for your skin, but for your hair too, especially when preparing your hair for the summer months. It helps to keep your scalp hydrated and your hair healthy.
5. Use mild hair masks: During summer season, a hair mask works better than a normal hair conditioner as it goes deep in the hair roots to hydrate the hair and retain moisture.
Now that you know all these useful tips, you are ready to maintain your hair and skin healthy for every season of the year!
