To have beautiful skin, you must first of all know your skin well. Without knowing your skin, it will be complicated to know which beauty products will be effective for your skin. This means that before buying a ton of creams and other beauty products, you need to refocus on yourself and get to know your skin type. This can be done in front of a mirror or with a test.
Each skin type has its own needs. For example, dry skin will not use beauty products designed for oily skin and vice versa.
Identifying your skin type is therefore essential in order to give it the care that suits you the best. The routine and cosmetic care must be different from one skin type to another, at the risk of having results contrary to those desired.
From this point of view, knowing your skin type is essential if you want to eradicate dullness, brown spots, excess sebum, redness or pimples.
There are 4 skin types: normal, oily, combination and dry.
Each skin type has its own specific characteristics.
Normal skin
This skin type is perceived as the "perfect" skin type. Skin like this is defined by a balanced production of water and sebum.
This means that, visually, the skin is neither too oily nor too dry. The complexion is even and the pores are smooth.
The skin is not tight and there is no redness even in the face of external changes. Its skin texture is tight and its complexion is luminous.
It is still necessary to moisturise it in order to maintain an optimal complexion and skin tone.
Oily skin
The skin is shiny all over the face and all day long. It can be recognised by inflamed spots or blackheads. This is due to an overproduction of sebum. The skin is thick, the pores are visible and the complexion is dull.
This overproduction of sebum is due to the lack of hydration, so it compensates for its vulnerability to external elements such as pollution, wind and cold.
For this type of skin, it is preferable to use moisturising products based on non-occlusive and comedogenic plant oils, and to avoid the use of cleansers and scouring products that damage the skin's hydrolipidic film and stimulate sebum production.
This skin is a problem because many people want to stop this overproduction by drying it out with abrasive products. But this only makes the problem worse as the skin will protect itself by producing more sebum to fight against these products that dry out the skin.
Combination skin
This is the most common skin type.
In fact, the skin is oily on the T-zone (chin, nose, forehead) with blackheads and pimples and it is normal or dry on the rest of the face.
Here again, it is important to understand your skin in order to use the right products.
Cosmetics for combination skin or a cream for oily skin on the T-zone and a cream for normal or dry skin on the cheeks, temples and jawline.
Dry skin
This is the opposite of oily skin, where the epidermis does not secrete enough fat.
The skin barrier is therefore not strong enough, or even non-existent. The skin is therefore thinner, which accentuates skin ageing.
External changes have a great influence on dry skin, which means that the skin becomes taut, easily reddened or even flaky.
In this type of skin, the skin does not lack water but lipids.
This type of skin therefore needs a lot of attention, being more fragile than the others.
It can be confused with dehydrated skin (which is not really a skin type) but it must be distinguished as it does not require the same treatments.
For this type of skin, it is preferable to favour nourishing and soothing care products rather than moisturising ones, and to avoid the use of cleansers and scouring products which damage the skin's hydrolipidic film and accentuate the evaporation of the water contained in the dermis.
To find out your skin type, you can perform a test on tissue paper.
Here is how to proceed for this test:
Clean and wipe your face.
Wait half an hour for the sebaceous glands to become active again.
Apply two wide strips of tissue paper vertically to the face:
one on part of the midline of the face (nose, forehead, chin)
the other on one side, against the cheek and temple.
Press without rubbing for one or two minutes.
After that, the condition of the paper will tell you about the nature of your skin:
If both papers show significant traces: your skin is probably oily.
If the paper on the middle line has oily traces, but the other does not, your skin is combination.
If both papers have few oily traces: your skin is normal.
If neither paper has any oily traces: your skin is certainly dry.
This test gives a better idea of your skin type in the absence of a real diagnosis.
However, only a dermatologist can make a true diagnosis
Our skin type is genetically defined, i.e. from birth, it cannot be changed but it can be improved with recurrent care.
The skin care must be adapted for it to work.
It is advisable to adapt your skin care routine according to the seasons, your external environment, the hazards of life (stress, fatigue, etc.), the state of your skin, etc. This does not mean that you should change everything, but certainly add complementary treatments.
It is important to use natural ingredients, vegetable oils, nourishing butters etc. This will help to rebalance your skin's PH which can be altered by products containing alcohol or by abusive skin care products.
We remind you that our Revitalising Eye Cream is made of natural ingredients and is cruelty free.
It is a product that will perfectly suit your skin thanks to its neutral PH.
It is available on Amazon Italy and France.
